Normally it’s downtown Bridgeport or Black Rock that I fret over, but now Fairfield is suffering a loss — quite a sudden one, from the perspective of a relative outsider to the Fairfield Arts Center.
The FAC is closing after 15 years, the Connecticut Post’s Culture Cache blog reports.
In Black Rock, I grumble that only only make money selling booze and, uh, massages. The Black Rock Gallery moved away, and the Black Rock Arts Center just plain folded. These were two entities that got me started on this blog three years ago.
But then Fairfield, where the 1 percent accounts for at least 30 percent of the people there, lost Art Place, the Greenwich Workshop Gallery, their bookstore, and now this. What sells in Fairfield center? Food and drink. Feeding the mind won’t cut it.
Across town, the gallery at Sacred Heart University is also shutting down. It’s outrageous and sad.
Not that I ever really understood how these non-profits make it. Finance is a big mystery to me. But I know this much. If I’m not hungry, there’s one less reason to spend any time in Fairfield center anymore.


I’m not on many boards or committees, but there’s one that I’ve on for two years now. It’s been a lot of fun to be on the committee that plans
